Family Porch Portraits | Franklin, TN | Lifestyle Documentary Photographer

I wrestled with myself whether or not I should get out and do these during our quarantine. Could I do this and still keep everyone safe, stay within the boundaries of social distancing? My kids and I are out walking in the neighborhood every single day. Stopping by someone’s yard and taking a few pictures would be just as simple as that.

Normally, during a family session, I am an in-your-face kind of photographer. I like to get close, move around and get lots of different perspectives of my families. I like to select a gorgeous location with amazing light. But I also love documentary photography, watching the way you interact with your family without me putting you in a bunch of poses and having you look right at the camera. It would not be a traditional family session, something a little different. Something for now, for this time in our history.

So I started asking neighbors if they’d like to do some porch portraits with me and raise money for charity, especially our local food banks. And then they asked a few friends. I got to meet some amazing new neighbors and also donate to local charities in need.

I’d love to keep doing these. I think it’s so important to have images in your own personal space. When you and your kids look back in 20 years, you’ll remember this moment, this house, the way your family was. Get in touch if you’d like for me to stop by your house too!
